Saint George's School
In the fall of 2004, a sophomore guy at our school came across footage of US FIRST on the NASA channel. He decided this looked like fun, and soon had a group of friends interested in starting the project. A few sophomore guys and one sophomore girl went to the new physics teacher, Rick DeFord, who had been hoping to find some sort of large-scale project to get involved in. This perfect combination was the birth of Team 1595. This core group of students and our devoted coach came together just in time to register for the 2005 season.
Team 1595 is not only student initiated, it is student led. Based on the business model, 1595 CEO Elisabeth, is at the helm while other team members form the specialized groups which are necessary to be successful with a large scale project like the FIRST Robotics Competition. Students are at the forefront of every activity, from community relations to design and construction of the robot. They have the opportunity to interact with business and technical professionals in a real world application. These communication and group experiences will prove to be invaluable for the future of our team members. Learning is not only real and practical, it is FUN!
